Real Madrid heeft zich zonet zonder al te veel moeite geplaatst voor de finale van het wereldkampioenschap voor clubs. Tegen het Japanse Kashima Antlers won het met 1-3, na een hattrick van Gareth Bale. Thibaut Courtois stond alweer in doel, maar komt toch weer met de nodige kritiek uit deze wedstrijd.
