Simon Mignolet geraakte zijn basisplaats bij Liverpool op bedenkelijke wijze kwijt, maar is altijd zeer professioneel blijven omgaan met deze deceptie. Zo bleef hij op training hard werken in functie van de ploeg. En ook over Loris Karius kon hij geen kwaad woord kwijt, zelfs niet na zijn enorme blunders van zaterdag in de Champions League-finale.
En die houding wordt blijkbaar erg geapprecieerd door de aanhang van de Reds. De supporters van Liverpool toonden zich, onder meer door buitensporige kritiek van ex-keeper Bruce Grobbelaar, doorgaans streng voor de Belg. Maar nu hij niet meer tussen de palen staat beseft men wat ze de voorbije jaren aan Mignolet hebben gehad. En ook het feit dat hij zich uiterst professioneel blijft opstellen ten opzichte van de club kunnen de fans wel smaken.
Dat bleek uit de vele reacties op een Tweet die Mignolet verstuurde na het verlies van Real Madrid. Normaal gezien zitten daar telkens wat sneren en kritiek tussen, maar nu waren de reacties zeer positief. De Rode Duivel wordt geloofd voor zijn inzet en krijgt succeswensen voor volgend seizoen, ook al zou dat bij een andere club zijn.
